Common Scams to Avoid
Unlicensed drivers at the taxi queue approach arriving passengers claiming the official stand is closed or has a long wait. They quote inflated flat fares instead of using the meter. Walk past them to the clearly marked taxi stand where drivers are required to use the meter.
Porters inside the arrivals hall offer to carry bags to the Airport Express or taxi ranks and then demand high fees that far exceed the official porter service rates. Politely refuse unsolicited help or, if you need assistance, use the uniformed staff at the official service desk.
Currency-exchange booths just outside the restricted zone advertise "no commission" but give rates significantly worse than those inside the terminal or in the city. Some even short-change hurried travelers. Compare rates on the public display board first or wait until you reach downtown Kowloon for better options.
